1913 Commemoration Committee
In 1993 a number of trade unionists, anarchists and other socialists
came together to organise commemorations of the
1913 Lockout in Dublin. This
occured when the employers locked out all the members of the ITGWU
until they would sign a bit of paper leaving that union. After almost
a year the workers were forced back to work by starvation but the
strength of there fight allowed the ITGWU to recover. The lockout
also saw the first workers milita, in the form of the
Irish Citizen Army set up to protect
the workers from the police and scabs.
