COMMON STATEMENT OF APO and DAF AGAINST INTERSTATE COMPETATIONS IN EAST MEDITERRANEAN
In Greece and Turkey, Against Wars and Interstate Competitions, Internationalist and Class Solidarity is the Peoples Strength!
The economic and political powers are in an unprecedented global attack against the peoples on the periphery of capitalism through wars, military operations, overthrowing regimes and imposing new ones, aiming to control and exploit all living and non-living beings, all communities. This process, which condemns millions of people to poverty, impoverishment, disease and displacement; it is the precondition for the accumulation of wealth in the hands of the global economic elite and the redistribution of the geopolitical balance of power in the world between global, regional and local powers in the context of inter-state competition.
Within this final process, the competition between states, between Greece and Turkey is escalating and the preparations for war are accelerated. Their goal is to establish the Exclusive Economic Zone for the operation of energy assets and control of energy trading routes in the Aegean Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean.
In reality, this is a dangerous resurgence of a long standing confrontation, presenting different levels of escalation over time, that exists to serve the interests of the bosses from Greek and Turkish, of the big multinational mining corporations and to split the control and exploitation of the wider region between the interstate mechanisms that systematically unfold their competitions in it. The reason why global capitalist powers, such as the US, France, and interstate military mechanisms, as NATO, are visible in this conflict through their effort to contain wider military power in the geopolitically highly strategic region of the South East Mediterranean is for more profitable balance of power in global energy markets than it is now.
For Greece, its active participation in this conflict through the development of war resources in the Aegean Sea is a reaffirmation of its commitment to the EU and NATO and to police on their behalf in the wider region. Political, military and energy cooperation with Egypt, Cyprus and Israel is in this direction.
For Turkey, the open involvement of the competitions in the wider region – from the military invasion and control of Rojava to the fulfillment of the Turkey-Libya National Reconciliation Government Agreement and the exodus of its war fleet in the Mediterranean- are tactical moves of great importance in the context of serving its general strategic direction of becoming a powerful regional player in the intra-global capitalist competitions.
The escalation of the conflict in the Eastern Mediterranean by both States creates the possibility of affecting Cyprus, which is another issue they contend with. F-16s and destroyer ships are traveling around Cyprus, and these conflicts mean that the peoples of Cyprus are exposed to the aggression created by the states.
Both the Greek and the Turkish states are promoting nationalism, intolerance and the rhetoric of hatred within the context of their increasing competition. Their goal is to impose fear within society, to convince the great social majority, which is looted and viciously exploited by the state and the bosses, that it has common interests with the political and economic elites that rule them.
From our side, as anarchists from both sides of the Aegean Sea, we are aware that the prospect of war societies, of poverty and impoverishment, of the rise of nationalism and social fascistization will be devastating to humanity. We are convinced that class and internationalist solidarity between the peoples, the organized counter-attack of the exploited classes and the overturn of the world of state and capitalism at a global level can form the necessary conditions for the creation of a society of liberty, equality, peace and justice, without exploitation, wars and disorienting competitions.
Let us revitalize the struggle for Social Revolution, for Anarchism and Libertarian Communism!
